AI Customer Support Bot for E-commerce

A concept build showing how we deploy a catalog-trained AI support bot for an online store drowning in repetitive tickets. The bot answers order, shipping, and returns questions instantly across web chat and WhatsApp, and hands complex cases to human agents with full context attached.

01 / The Problem

A typical mid-size electronics store receives 500+ customer inquiries a day across email, web chat, and WhatsApp. Most are variations of the same questions — where is my order, what is the return window, does this accessory fit my device — yet each one waits in the same queue as genuine edge cases. First responses stretch past 24-48 hours, satisfaction drops, and a small support team burns out answering questions the store’s own documentation already covers.

02 / Our Approach

How we build it.

01Ticket audit and scoping

We export 60-90 days of historical tickets and cluster them by intent. This shows exactly which question types dominate the queue, which are safely automatable, and which must always route to a human. The audit becomes the scoping contract: the bot launches only on intents where the source of truth is unambiguous.

02Knowledge base construction

We turn the store’s product catalog, FAQs, shipping matrix, and returns policy into a structured, retrieval-ready knowledge base. Every answer the bot gives must trace back to a document the store controls — no free-form model guessing about prices, stock, or policy. Catalog syncs keep product data current as inventory changes.

03Bot build and channel integration

We build the bot on a retrieval-augmented LLM pipeline and wire it into the channels customers already use: the website widget and WhatsApp Business. Shopify integration lets it answer “where is my order” with live order status rather than a canned deflection, and start a return flow inside the conversation itself.

04Escalation design and guardrails

Anything outside approved intents — refund disputes, damaged items, upset customers — escalates to a human inbox with the full transcript, detected intent, and order context attached, so agents never restart the conversation. Confidence thresholds, PII handling, and a hard never-invent-policy rule are tested before launch.

05Pilot, measurement, and tuning

We launch to a slice of traffic first and measure auto-resolution rate, handoff rate, and customer feedback per intent. Weak intents get better source documents or are pulled back to humans. Only after the numbers hold across a full week does the bot take the entire queue.

03 / Target Outcomes

Target outcomes

60-80% of routine inquiries auto-resolved

Basis: Industry benchmarks for docs-trained support bots operating on scoped intents

First response time cut from hours to seconds

Basis: Inherent latency of automated chat versus queued email responses

Support hours redirected from repetitive tickets to edge cases

Basis: Ticket-mix shifts reported in published retail chatbot deployments

24/7 coverage without added headcount

Basis: Always-on automation replacing business-hours-only replies

Illustrative targets based on industry benchmarks — not guaranteed results.
